Assignment due 4/5
The types of collaborations that i have been engaged in range from every type of group project having to do with power points, to lessons, to speeches. I am a member of the volleyball club and have always been on some sort of team my whole life. This has helped me learn how to get through happy and uncomfortable situations. When you have people that you know will have your back it makes it easy to get comfortable and want to work with them in other areas as well. Teams can teach students that they are not alone and they have others to help and expand their own ideas and learn others perspectives. Being a part of urban group has effected me because more and more things are becoming industrialized. So many things are no longer personable. Collaboration in the classroom to tech citizenship and deal with challenging situations but doing skits and learning about each in a fun way.

Assignment due 3/29
What is your response to the New Children’s Museum? Have they successfully integrated new media into art that is appropriate, engaging for children? Is it just entertainment or is there educational value to what is being presented?
At the Children's Museum i felt that it was more geared towards infants to about 1st graders. the architecture of the building is beautiful, but i do not feel makes the museum inviting. i felt that when on the tour i was very young and our guide was treating us very little. granted i know she works with children all day, so that is what she is used too. i felt that all the different stations or exhibits were great on the integration of learning and media, although some were complex for the age range that they target. i felt that there was both entertainment and educational value that was presented. With that said when i was little i dont think that my mom would have taken me there because a lot of those lessons that were exhibits we learn in everyday life and through experience i.e. the rain house.

Assignment due 3/22
1)
A) the role of media in art today is more dominate then ever. Kids in this age are now comfortable if not more comfortable with technology than their teachers. With this knowledge they have more access to television adds, music videos, films, videos, computer generated images, these are all forms of art. With this being the reality art in the classroom is in a way becoming more mandatory because that is the way kids have adapted to learning. The examples that pertain most to my argument are fax friendships and copy technology outlined in chapter 10 in our book.
B) Examples of how one could use photography and video as an educational and communicational tool in the classroom are: a cd or dvd about particular artists, comparison slides of different art works, a live television lesson a video recording interview, and maybe an internet lesson.
2)
A) After Luz Chung’s presentation on social justice and its connection to the classroom I feel that the most important point she made that hits home with me is Dialogue in the classroom. Growing up i was always able to have a voice and express myself in different ways. I think that as a teacher that is one of the hardest things to do, letting each child have their voice and learning how to express themselves in their own appropriate way. As a teacher I hope to achieve that and make my students as comfortable as my teachers made me.
B) I could use arts in the classroom to create a common ground with students from various backgrounds by using figures that each student would know and discussing all the controversies that go along with each public figure. Each student would then be able to have their voice and although we are all different have the same views on maybe one figure

Assignment due 3/8
A) I thought that the visit to SDMA was very enlightening. I never thought that math and science could be at the inner workings of various pieces of art. i enjoyed being with the class because we could learn others perspective on the different paintings just like a real classroom that we will all be soon teaching. All the works were innovative and made is think, it is a great way to have critical thinking brought out in a non threatening environment.
B) Yes I believe that SDMA is a viable accessible resource for elementary and secondary students. Being a student myself I learned a lot so being a elementary student it would be fun learning different subjects from paintings. Also, getting out of the classroom and experiencing new things as a student it always memorable.

Assignment due 3/1
A) When creating the headdress I wanted it to look vary earthy but decided early on that I only wanted to use tissue paper. Knowing that we will not have a lot of money to spend on supplies as teachers that is where pure tissue paper cam from. I then began to think of what kind of princess fairytale I would want to be in. I wanted to be fun and bubbly with many flowers. My hat began to form itself. A white base with pink and purple boarders. There were flowers and cupcake holders to enhance the look of the flowers. Then I thought that princesses usually have flowing hair. So with help took yellow and brown tissue paper and made braids.
B)To use this lesson in a 2nd grade lesson I would read some different fairy tales, have the kids tell me what makes up a fairy tale, then they write their own. After they are finished writing make a headdress that will match the story they have created. This will allow them to expand in creativity and writing.

Assignment due 2/22
A) The value of facilitating a discussion about the works of art with young children is to learn abstract ways to look at the same thing. When they start to see the others perspective they begin to enhance their own. It is important for the students to discuss them so that they have the opportunity to interpret what they see through vocabulary. When we use VTS we don’t end up having right or wrong answers. This gives the kids the affirmations that they are not seeing their opinions wrong. All in all they benefit by vocabulary, interpretive, and comprehensive skills.
B) Well Since it was such a recognizable place, both Raquel and Michelle both new the place and setting from the personal knowledge. This was expected. Then they both began to speculate at the different occasion that it would be. They began to say that it was a holiday because so many people were out, or possibly a weekend. They were talking about a lot about the setting and energy from the piece as apposed to what the people were wearing.

Assignment due 2/15
A) Art in the classroom was very limited when i was in grade school. We would have twice a week about 30 minutes for art. We never really had enough time to finish the project that day so it would take the full week to finish that one simple project. I remember having some coloring exercises along with social studies but other than that we did not really do a lot of art, or art related projects. I feel that if we were to have done more art in school younger i would feel more comfortable with it. I feel apprehensive because i am not that developed in the artistic sense. I feel that i am creative but do not have the skill to implement that into art.
B) The relationship between art and learning goes hand and hand. With the development of our brian we learn that the brain learns through multiple senses and modalities, it thrives on processes and making sense of new information, and uses patterns to make sense of this new information. With all these things thats is when art comes to play. Making the brain work and have critical thinking through art, finding new patterns, and also using different ways to expresses the means that we interpret things. Making the students interested in a different way then text learning.
The general benefits of arts integration are providing a safe environment for english learners, providing unique opportunities for grouping, socially constructed learning that connects to the real world, and offers challenges to students. These all help students to expand their critical thinking and getting a visual aid as well to help them refer back to at later times. The knowledge becomes more relatable and in turn assessable when this is done.

Chapter 3 response #8 page 66
As I was observing each person drawing the body position that they chose I noticed that they did not put a lot of action and movement into the actual human figure. I found this telling because the higher level of art that you have been exposed to would mean that different techniques could be exposed. This meaning that each was not exposed to the different types of shading and movement techniques available. This indicated to me that they in fact did stop doing art very young in school the average was about 7th grade. Interesting enough when think back about the last time i took art this was about the same time as them. In high school they are offered as electives and most of us who are not talented will opt out and chose a different elective we find easier. All in all this was a good demonstration that we do stop art too early and someone that is older may still have the peak ability of a 5th grader.

I live right next to nobel, on this street is where this building is located. I drive by this building on a daily basis, never wondering what is going on inside. When i was little my mom would tell me that all the disney princesses are inside waiting for my arrival. She made me me want to constantly attend something inside that castle. The median of this picture is a building, it is such a clear day that is almost looks like a painting. This building is on the side of the freeway for everyone passing by to see. When i look at this building yes it is very beautiful, but i feel that it is some what out of place. the buildings on the other side of the freeway are very industrial. there is a movie theater, whole foods, and other stores in the shopping center. This building for some reason makes me nervous, because the exclusivity of the patrons. It is very high security and those that are not that religion are not let in. thinking outside my views i would think that the patrons love and adore this building, making any cost to keeps its value. looking at it not in my view makes me think that it is more beautiful.
This is a photo of the new popular kids trend of silly bands. they are rubber colored shapes that when untouched become different objects, shapes, and animals. i see these all the time when i am helping out at my local parish. my mom just got a huge bundle to pass out to her students. i was helping her open them and when i saw them scattered on the bed this way i had to get a shot. i thought that yes each individual silly band is a work of art but collectively they look like so much fun together. so , the silly bands became the median of my photo. to someone who does not know silly bands this may seem like a silly trend. Although, when i watch the kids play with them they begin interacting and wanting to trade, they start having a common ground to jump off from. other people who do not know may think that the silly bands are all together just pain silly.
By my house they just recently opened a Sprinkles. this is a cupcake shop. It is very popular and there is always a line out the door. i went in to see what all the rage was about. When entering i was talking to one of the women that works there. she handed me a pamphlet and showed me some of there best work. this was one of the photographs that was in her hand. it was a special order that they were very proud of. to me they made sprinkles look as high end as possible. to me they look high end just because growing up i knew that the universal sign for co co chanel was the two linked c's. to someone that was from a different socioeconomic class these cupcakes would be just nicely decorated. they would know care about how branded they were. i guess they would see them fro their beauty rather than why they are beautiful.
When i was walking downtown by this shop i saw these bottles. they signified originality, old times, and simplicity. this was my picture of old america. the bottles are the median of my photo. looking at this from a different perspective each could represent a different type or flavor of person. not knowing the backgrounds and standing together to be the greater america. all of these brands are some that we have all grown up knowing and loving.
this is a photo of shea. she is my friends dog. she happens to be the median of the photo. it was a big deal that she make it through her puppy school because she was constantly causing mischief around the house. When looking at this photo from a different perspective this might not be a high priority that the dog graduate from puppy school. in some cultures people eat dogs. here in america and especially in our culture we think of our dogs as people or some even refer to them as their children. This would not be the view of dogs in many other cultures.
this is just a simple cup. this happens to be a starbucks cup and that is the median of my photo. in todays culture we are constantly doing something. So, with that comes the increasing need for a constant stream of caffeine. there is a type of coffee shop on almost every corner. this would seem odd to cultures that do not see the sense in making ourselves constantly stressed out all the time. They would look at coffee as more of a social event or family gathering as apposed to something that we do as a quick fix to get back out on the field.
this is a photo of perfume. the median being the bottle and the case that it comes in. In our daily lives we are doing everything to stand out, look and feeling better about ourselves, and need to keep up with the jones'. i think that in our culture most young women would be attracted to wanting to buy something like this because of the brand and appearance. in other cultures the 80 dollars would not go on some perfume.
